Exports of Chinese Fuji apples to Europe are set to drop in volume by the end of 2007, compared to the year-earlier period, say trade sources.

Volumes stood at 804,226 tonnes in 2006, but by September 2007 the import figure was just 639,921t.

While southern European countries like Spain, France, Italy and Portugal have already taken up more fruit this year than they did during the whole of 2006, the decline is expected to be felt in northern countries like the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Germany, which look set to import smaller volumes overall by the end of 2007.

High prices mean there is currently little movement in exports, according to Chinese exporter Sanlong.
