Dutch importer Royal van Namen (RvN) is to bring in its first Saudi Arabian grapes this season.
RvN’s Michael Kouwenberg said the first season will determine whether the perceived potential for Saudi Arabian product is there. Quality, he claims, is on a par with Egyptian fruit. “Saudi-Arabia has the potential and the facilities to surpass Egypt,” he is quoted as saying by the Dutch media.
The Saudi season begins slightly earlier than Egypt’s, but this year there has been a delay of approximately 10 days.
Kouwenberg said Thompson and Superior is a few days away from reaching the desired brix levels. “ The first grapes are expected to arrive in week 24,” he added.
RvN will also import a small number of Red Globe containers in July.
