Christian Salvesen, the UK logistics service provider, has been the subject of a takeover approach.
Shares in the Northampton-based group shot up by as much as 28 per cent after it confirmed the initial approach.
Christian Salvesen admitted it is being chased by two suitors, but qualified its statement by saying there is no guarantee of a formal offer to follow. Shares had fallen back slightly by the end of today’s session, to be up 24 per cent, at 64p.
Reports speculate that the wording of the firm's statement “could indicate that the buyer was a private equity firm”. German mail and logistics firm Deutsche Post is rumoured to be in the frame.
CS has operations in eight European countries, including the UK.
