Sakata hosts broccoli meeting

Seed breeder Sakata Europe welcomed more than 400 growers and retailers to its first Broccoli Convention in Cartagena, Spain in December 2007. The convention consisted of field tours around trials of the complete Sakata broccoli range and presentations on marketing broccoli.

The convention coincided with the seed company’s launch of its Naxos F1 broccoli variety, which combines high head quality and good heat tolerance. Held at the peak of the Spanish growing season for broccoli, the convention also highlighted the way that the Sakata Seed Corporation has improved its broccoli variety offer to the European market. Variety Parthenon F1 has quickly become the leading variety in Spain since its launch in 2005, due to the variety’s exceptional quality.

In 2007, Sakata launched the Aqulies F1 variety, which is mainly used for spring production in Northern Europe, and introduced Spiridon F1 in Spain, bringing high head quality in the difficult month of February.
