Sainsbury's market share has slipped again, according to figures released from TNS. The store is now only 0.5 of a percentage point ahead of Asda, which is expected to overtake Sainsbury's in the next few months.

Sainsbury's share of the grocery market in the 12 weeks to June 22 fell to 16.8 per cent from the 17.7 per cent it held in the same period last year. As Sainsbury's share fell, Tesco and Asda increased their share by nine per cent and 10 per cent respectively.

Tesco market share increased from 25.9 per cent while Asda rose from 15.5 per cent to 16.3 per cent.
