The first Ayrshire potatoes of the season were unveiled at Safeway's Ayr store on Saturday.

The potatoes were delivered loose on the tractor of William Jack of Ardneil Farm, West Kilbride, supplier to Albert Bartlett & Sons.

Safeway staff will be actively promoting the well-known and local product and highlighting the arrival of this fresh delivery. Brian Boyle, store manager at Ayr said: 'Safeway Ayr is delighted to be the first to have Ayrshires on sale, they are always a big favourite with customers. We are having the tatties delivered by tractor after the first howkin' – you can't get any fresher than that.' Also at the store were John Heginbottom and John Hicks, both of Albert Bartlett and Sons and Allan Blest, produce manager, Safeway, Ayr.
