Robert Beeson

Robert Beeson

Potato trade veteran Robert Beeson has died, aged 69.

Robert passed away on 2 September following a career spanning 45 years.

His sixth generation family business began as growers’ merchants and wholesalers. His brother Tony said it was Robert’s “passion for potatoes” which had led the company to broaden its interests to great success.

Robert worked for Beesons in the old Covent Garden and Borough markets and the firm extended into a multi-million pound operation, eventually becoming MBM. A memorial service will take place on 29 September in Norfolk.

Friend John Gould said: "I first met Robert many years ago when we both worked separately in the Borough market. It turned into a lasting friendship, cemented on the golf course and sharing an office at Melton Constable when I later joined the company's fruit importing division.

"While an acknowledged potato specialist, he had the ability to quickly understand the complexities of another sector of the trade in which the family were involved."
