Catering supply specialist Reynolds is supplying British Sofia salad potatoes to the UK foodservice industry on an exclusive basis.
Reynolds is offering Sofia to customers who are missing Jersey Royal now that the island’s season is complete.
Sofia potatoes were developed by Dutch firm Agrico Research BV and first listed in the UK in 2004 and brought to market by Greenvale AP.
John Rix, who farms in Great Horkesley, Colchester, is supplying Reynolds with Sofia which is characterised by a typical salad potato waxy texture coipuled with an unusual softness. Sofia also has a hint of sweetness which Reynolds believes makes it ideal for salad and fish dishes.
In July, MD Tony Reynolds and his team visited Rix’s farm to help lift the first batch of new crop Sofia.
“It was a privilege to unearth this season's first batch of Sofia potatoes,” he said. “Not only did we see the potatoes being harvested in the field, we were also able to taste the new crop. Simply boiled, drizzled with butter and served with fresh salmon and asparagus, I can personally lay testament to the fact that they tasted delicious.”
