Laverstoke Park has announced that it will hold a series of workshops from September 24-28, at the 2,500 acre organic farm.

A total of five days of learning, recognised under the BASIS/NRoSO Continual Professional Development (CPD) scheme, will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day.

The workshops, entitled “Improving life in your soil”, follow the success of Laverstoke Park’s two-day seminar of the same name in May this year.

Speakers include Dr Elaine Ingham, director and president of Soil Foodweb Inc and Sustainable Studies Institute, USA and Dr Vinodh Krishnamurthy, manager of the Soil Foodweb Laboratory Service and Research at Laverstoke Park.

The first two days of the workshops will cover the introduction and principles of the Soil Foodweb, and the third day will cover compost technology and will include a visit to the Laverstoke Park five-acre compost facility. The forth day will focus on how to make good quality compost tea and the final day will cover light microscope techniques - teaching people how to make their own assessment of the micro-organisms present in the compost tea by using a light microscope.

The focus of the event will be to improve the awareness and implementation of organic farm management practice and to reduce pesticide, inorganic fertiliser inputs and water use.
