The Board of Natural England, the statutory body with responsibility for enhancing and managing the natural environment, has re-appointed Doug Hulyer and Pam Warhurst, after their initial appointments ran out.

Both Hulyer and Warhurst were originally appointed until September 30, but have now had their contracts extended for another three years by the minister for marine, landscape and rural affairs, Jonathan Shaw.

Hulyer, an independent advisor on People and Nature programmes and projects, was previously the director of conservation programmes and projects at the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust. A ‘committed environmentalist’, Hulyer has been a professional environmental educator and conservationist for over 30 years.

Hulyer’s responsibilities include the south west region, except Devon and Cornwall, and the Exmoor National Park.

Warhurst, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Manufacturing, chairs the Pennine Prospects, a regeneration company for the South Pennines. Her previous posts include chair of a Health Trust, and deputy chair of the Countryside Agency before taking up the appointment on the board where her responsibilities include the north west region (Mersey belt) and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Warhurst was awarded the CBE in 2005, in recognition of her services to the environment.
