Preserved for prosperity

Agrico offers a comprehensive range of freshly peeled and blanched potatoes, sold under the brand CêlaVíta. All of its potatoes are ready-to-use, suited for cooking, baking or frying and do not contain any dry-white or other preservatives.

“Nowadays people are becoming more conscious of the use of preservatives,” says Edwin From, account manager, foodservice, for the UK market. “With CêlaVíta, chefs can offer their customers a convenient fresh potato without having to worry about that. Furthermore, due to the par-cooking we do in our factory there are substantial time and energy savings to be made in the kitchen. With our products there is hardly any loss of weight after the cooking which brings the efficiency in the kitchen to almost 100 per cent.”

CêlaVíta potatoes are strictly graded on quality, size and dry-matter content. The latter is very important in the kitchen as dry-matter content grading results in the equal cooking time of all potatoes, and therefore less waste. After the grading process the potatoes are steam peeled, cut, blanched, chilled and packed in a protective atmosphere.

CêlaVíta’s aim is to offer solutions in the kitchen and it has a range of 2kg and 10kg products on offer. The base consists of three different boiling potatoes: whole boiling potatoes (small and large), potato halves and potato quarters. Says From: “On one hand, kitchens want a quality potato with problem-free preparation and high efficiency on a tight budget. On the other hand, end consumers want potatoes to be like the ones they eat at home. CêlaVíta aims to meet both wishes as good as possible by optimizing the cooking process in the kitchen and at the same time maintaining the home-cut look on the plate with products like our quarter cut potatoes.”

Besides boiling potatoes there is also a wide range of products that are perfect for baking and/or frying such as baby potatoes, mini baby potatoes, slices, dices and wedges. “With these products we fit the need for the kitchen chef to be able to serve a special, festive product on special occasions like Christmas dinners or other special occasions,” says From.
