The potato is Britain’s most loved vegetable, according to ready sauce producers Dolmio.
In a customer poll ran by the Mars-owned company, potatoes came out on top amassing 72 per cent of the vote. Carrots came in second place, with 66 per cent of the vote and tomatoes in third with 65 per cent.
The votes revealed that for Brits, more traditional crops still come out on top, some of which have not seen the levels of growth of other vegetables in recent years.
For example, tomato volumes decreased by 0.8 per cent in the 52 weeks leading up to May, according to the FPJ Big 50 Products 2018. Carrots also had a tough year with volumes down 1.2. per cent.
Dolmio’s poll saw avocados and radishes ranked in Britain’s 10 most hated vegetables, despite rapidly becoming more popular with shoppers. Avocados could soon be in the top 10 having grown another 3.7 per cent in sales, becoming a £178 million category.
The artichoke came out as Britain’s number one most hated veg, gaining 47 per cent of the vote.
