Dutch processed-potato supplier Lamb Weston has won a contract to serve chips, wedges and onion rings at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The company’s products will be served in restaurants, hotels and food stalls around the Games.

It said that distribution partners in Russia made the contract possible, after the firm was picked from other hopefuls in a “rigorous” selection process.

Lamb Weston channel marketing manager, Merav Mattijssen, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen for our consistent high-quality products and to be providing people’s favorite foods, such as premium French fries, wedges and onion rings, to restaurants, food stalls and hotels across Sochi.

“We hope this year’s games will be memorable and successful, both on the sports fields and for visitors and athletes enjoying a selection of their favorite foods while staying in Sochi.”

She added: “We wish the athletes, as well as the surrounding food businesses, great success.”

Lamb Weston has been active in the Russian market since 2004, primarily supplying quick service restaurants and other catering outlets.

It supplies frozen potato products as well as dehydrated potato flakes to over 100 countries, wirth production taking place in various countries, including the UK.
