Port of London reports a good year for 2003

Trade volume figures of 51 million tonnes were reported; similar tonnage levels to 2002 figures of 51.2m. Additionally, annual turnover remained flat year-on-year at £32.8m. PLA chairman Simon Sherrard said: “Overall trade volume was similar to 2002… the diversity of cargo was maintained and we are seeing an increase in the volume of unitised cargo both by way of container ship and ro-ro. Aggregate volumes reduced as the ground works for a number of infrastructure projects were completed. With the investment planned by terminals on the river, we are confident regarding future levels of activity.”

The PLA consists of 70 independently owned terminals and port facilities, handling a variety of cargoes.
