Food processor and manufacturer PepsiCo has unveiled new precision farming technology to reduce water and carbon emissions on partner farms by 50 per cent over the next five years.
The company is one of the UK’s largest purchasers of UK apples, using 100 per cent British fruit in Copella English Apple juice - 1,500 tonnes of which is supplied by Newmafruits in Kent - while also being the UK’s largest potato buyer.
A new report unveiled a web-based crop management tool developed with Cambridge University and plans to replace more than 75 per cent of PepsiCo UK’s potato stock with higher yielding varieties that will decrease wastage by 2015.
