Pears on the menu for Beacon

A growing demand for fruit as an ingredient has led to success with pears for one supplier.

Brecon-based Beacon Foods conducted tests on roast, char-grilled and caramelised pears following increasing requests for fruit ingredients from its customers.

The company’s work on char-grilled and caramelised pears has now attracted the interest of a catering company and two varieties of roasted sliced pear, dusted with chilli powder and cardamom, are being supplied for a premium brand pizza topping.

Edward Gough, Beacon Foods md, said: “Food manufacturers and food service companies are now experimenting more with fruit and vegetable flavours.

“There is definitely a trend towards adding seasonings to ingredients to enhance the flavour.”
