Tesco distributors have decided to control their vehicle routing and scheduling using Paragon software.

The retailer now uses 26 of the software systems to organise 4,000 drops made by 1,400 vehicles to its 700 stores. The new network ensures consistency in order levels throughout Tesco's network.

The Paragon system is able to route and schedule in several waves throughout the day, enabling priority deliveries to be despatched before the final orders are in. It is also flexible enough to calculate when certain foods need to arrive at stores, for example some chilled food must arrive at the beginning of the day, Paragon can build that into the overall transport plan.

Ken Davis, transport development manager of Tesco said: 'The quality and reliability of the Paragon system made it the obvious choice for Tesco Distribution.

'It is a key operational system which we rely on every day.'
