Fruit and vegetable exports from Pakistan have increased significantly in the last year as the country shrugs off the economic downturn.
Fruit and vegetable exports from July 2008 to May 2009 increased by 6.5 per cent and 26.6 per cent, respectively.
Approximately 343,198 tonnes of vegetables, worth $67.3 million (£41.7m) were exported during the period under review against 211,458t last year with a total value of $5.3 million last year.
Pakistan earned $143.7 million by exporting about 435,198 tons of fruits during the period, according to data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
Fruits exports during the same period last year were recorded at 384,384 tons with a total value of $134.9 million.
