High roller: Outspan girls were on-hand to re-launch the half-time orange

Outspan, the UK's largest supplier of oranges, launched a campaign to bring back the half time orange at this weekend's Sun Footie Festival. Visitors and participants at the extravaganza, held on Clapham Common, London, to coincide with the beginning of the new football season, were treated to free slices of orange

Outspan said that, over time, it hopes to encourage footballers and people participating in other sports around the UK to resurrect the great old half-time tradition and re-introduce the sliced orange to their dressing rooms.

Martin Dunnett, marketing director of Outspan, said: “Oranges are an ideal pick-me-up during a tough game. Full of vitamin C and energy enhancing nutrients, they quench your thirst as well as giving you the sugar lift you need to help you perform at your best in the second half.”

The campaign also supports the Department of Health's 5-a-day campaign, which is trying to encourage people to eat at least five pieces of fresh fruit or vegetables a day, whether you're on or off the pitch.
