Tunisia’s pomegranate exports are entirely organic, according to its agricultural marketing agency.
Speaking at this year’s Fruit Logistica, the agency’s managing director Mohamed Gharbi, said the country exported 1,500 tonnes of pomegrantes in 2005, all of which were organic.
“We have made great strides in organic production. We even have produce from biodynamic farming,” he said.
France absorbs most of the organic fruit but Tunisia’s seven exhibitors hoped to attract other European buyers, with its produce range which also included dates, oranges, lettuce and potatoes.
