Onion and carrot event to set new record

This year’s Biennial Onion and Carrot Conference is set to be the biggest yet, with more than 500 members of the onion and carrot industries expected to attend. Industry speakers will tackle current horticultural issues, such as the challenges of climate change and new government legislation at the two-day conference and exhibition, which will take place at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, on November 21 and 22.

The trade and technical exhibition is now a sold-out event and will exhibit a range of companies from seeds to packaging. The first day of the conference will focus on the onion industry and will be followed by the popular conference dinner, which will be held at the Peterborough Marriott Hotel.

The onion conference will feature talks from James Paice MP, the shadow minister for agriculture & rural affairs, and Dr Leon Terry, senior lecturer & head of plant science laboratory at Cranfield University. The carrot conference, on the second day of the event, will respond to the challenges of climate change and delegates will hear how growers and agronomists will need to manage weeds for the first time without such products as Dosaflo; an industry standard that has become a casualty of the EU review.

“Anyone associated with the carrot industry cannot afford to miss this event, which provides a fascinating programme, information exchange and a first class opportunity to do business,” said Martin Evans, chairman of the British Carrot Growers Associaton.
