Intrepid walkers from the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime to conquer The Ridge Walk.

Two staff teams will be hiking 52 miles along the Ridge Way on 24 April and climbing a total of 3,800ft in aid of deafblind charity, Sense.

The teams will set off from Oxfordshire to follow the oldest road in the UK to Wiltshire, with the challenge of making the route in 24 hours.

The NFU’s John Mercer said: “It will be a real challenge to complete the walk in 24 hours but we have been training hard and we are all looking forward to the challenge.

“Sense is a fantastic charity which provides advice as well as specialist services to deafblind people. I would urge everyone to show their support and donate online - we need your help to hit our sponsorship target of £3,600.”

Willing participants for the gruelling challenge include NFU acting director general Martin Haworth, former director general Richard Macdonald and director of membership and the regions Malcolm Thomas, among others.
