The award-winning display ‘Growing for another Century’, which scooped the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) its 12th gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show, will be on show at the 2008 Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this week. The show, which runs from July 8-13, attracted more than 160,000 visitors last year.

The NFU display has a bold, 21st century, high-tech feel, and showcases the full range of seasonally-available British fruit, vegetables, plants and flowers that can be bought in local supermarkets, garden centres, markets or stores across the country.

Designed by Penny Riley and her team, it won many plaudits at this year’s RHS Chelsea flower show, where it is estimated that more than three-quarters of the 157,000 visitors visited the NFU stand, including celebrities Sir Trevor McDonald, chef Antonio Carluccio and Dustin Hoffman.

Richard Hirst, chairman of the NFU horticulture board, said: “The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is another great chance to showcase the very best of British produce to the world. Our recently launched Why Horticulture Matters campaign shows just how important horticulture is to the health of the nation, the economy and the environment, and the display acts as a spectacular reminder of this as well as reminding consumers to buy British.”
