A new international partnership aiming to build the world's largest network of hydroponic greenhouses could dramatically increase the availability of fresh produce across the United States.

BrightFarms, a US-based financial firm, which is currently building five greenhouses, including the world's largest rooftop farm, has partnered with Dutch agriculture consultancy Agro AdviesBuro.

The US company aims to tailor its greenhouses towards producing more fruit and vegetables for supermarkets, while both businesses have labelled the partnership a 'game-changer' for the hydroponic industry.

'Agro AdviesBuro is the right partner to provide feasibility verification and growing system optimisation for our visionary business model,' said Martin Weijters, the vice president of agriculture at BrightFarms.

Pieter van Velden, vice president of Agro Advies added: 'We're looking forward to offering our consulting expertise to BrightFarms and watching the company, and our partnership, grow.'
