A new trial market is set to open on Palatine Road, Northenden in October. Fruit and vegetables, fish, poultry, meats and traditional smoked products, such as speciality cheese and garlic, will all be on sale on the first Saturday of each month, from 10am until 4pm, for six months from October 6.

After six months, the trial market will be assessed to see if it is sustainable, with the hope that it will become a popular permanent fixture. Surveys and site visits had been conducted to find an ideal location for the new market in South Manchester. Chorlton, Didsbury and Northenden made it to the shortlist, but Palatine Road succeeded as it is easily accessible and has ample car parking nearby making it ideal.

Councillor Eddy Newman, executive member for markets, said: “There has been considerable local support for the establishment of this market. It looks set to be a huge asset to south Manchester. The traders will be selling a great selection of produce and shoppers will be able to get the best quality goods while supporting local business. We hope that customers support the market and make it a sustainable option.”
