An engineering company is hoping to generate interest in the UK market with the launch of new humidifying display equipment.

Michel Gschwind, owners of Areco, said the system, incorporating a high frequency nebuliser, sprayed extremely fine water droplets in a mist across a display of fresh produce. The water can also be refrigerated, he added. “The advantage with using this system is that it is gives longer shelf life, and needs less handling to maintain the display and less labour.”

He said his company and Aisin, a division of Japanese automotive giant Toyota, both jointly hold the patent for the system. At the moment around 150 independent stores are using the system in France and Areco is also conducting trials with Casino and Carrefour stores. “We have plans to bring it to the UK and we are working with a number of companies.”

He said while the cost of the equipment was high compared to standard display stands, he said not only was his system adaptable to suit any retail environment, but said the sales uplift experienced by French retailers paid for the equipment in less than a year.
