Morrisons strike suspended

The strike planned by Morrisons workers, scheduled to start tomorrow, has been suspended for seven days while talks continue.

All parties have been locked in negotiations this week, as the supermarket chain attempts to halt potentially devastating industrial action.

Now, a temporary ceasefire has been agreed upon, and the thousands of staff at distribution sites across the country will not walk out as planned for three days starting on Friday.

Workers at Morrisons are linked to the GMB and Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU). The unions were also planning a second strike beginning on September 29 and lasting for six days.

The dispute centres around a claim by unions that Morrisons is planning to close depots and axe large numbers of staff. Morrisons said that the depots in question are under review.
