Sir Ken Morrison has expressed a wish that his 27-year-old son succeeds him in the family business.

The supermarket chairman has stressed that he has no plans to slow down or retire ñ but said that when he did, family involvement would give the group continuity.

He said: “It would be very helpful if William took over one day, but it is not obligatory. He has got to have the wish to do it.”

The plan for continued family involvement is in keeping with Morrisons history. Sir Ken inherited a chain of market stalls selling eggs and butter and turned them into a chain with around 120 stores.
