Morrisons has posted another fall in sales, following on the back of recently-posted poor results from rivals Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Like-for-like sales excluding fuel fell 2.9 per cent in the three months to 3 May, a worse performance than the previous quarter, when sales dropped 2.6 per cent.

The news comes as Aldi and Lidl have seen yet more sales growth.

This is the first set of key results posted since David Potts took over as CEO on 16 March, replacing Dalton Philips.

Morrisons said it closed more stores than it opened during the quarter, and it has also announced plans to cut 720 jobs at its head office in Bradford.
