Morrisons could be set to face legal action for sex discrimination after allegedly offering a group of female staff less redundancy money than men.

The GMB union alleged that the women, working at an administration office in South Shields, were offered one-third of the redundancy money being paid to the male workforce.

It claimed women were being asked to take payments of one week per year of service, while the men have been offered three weeks per year.

Morrisons said the redundancies were being handled in accordance with good practice and in conjunction with the Usdaw union.
