Morrisons has launched one-hour grocery deliveries through Amazon in London and Herfordshire after expanding its grocery delivery agreement with the online retail giant.
From 16 November Amazon Prime customers in selected postcodes in these areas were able to order Morrisons products online or via the Amazon Prime app for delivery within 60 minutes for £6.99.
Alternatively, customers can choose two-hour delivery free of charge.
Morrisons’ tie-up with Amazon began in June, but the new deal extends the range of products available to Amazon customers.
The investment will only require a small capital outlay from Morrisons, but the retailer hopes it will contribute to incremental profits of between £50m and £100m, as outlined in Morrisons’ preliminary results in March.
Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: “As food maker and shopkeeper, we have unique skills to help build a broader new Morrisons through light capital growth.
“Morrisons at Amazon is another exciting joint opportunity and makes Morrisons good quality, great value-for-money products available to even more customers.”
To be eligible for deliveries within the hour customers must sign up to Amazon’s premium service Amazon Prime, which costs £79 a year.
