The Mexican fresh produce industry will soon be officially benchmarked against EurepGAP standards one year since announcing plans to begin the process.
Mexican officials announced plans to begin the benchmarking process at Fruit Logistica 2005, and now estimate the application will be officially approved by the end of February.
Following the official nod, the industry will embark on an extensive UK-wide promotional campaign in April using the Mexican Supreme Quality logo - a seal that guarantees EurepGAP and other quality more standards have been met.
“We are working in the last phase of the process - it’s now in the hands of the technical committee of EurepGAP,” Obed Mayoral, MQS, said.
“It’s a very long process that includes many visits to Mexico and to change all the protocols to meet EurepGAP standards takes time.”
