Tesco has launched a new ‘Meat & Veg’ range aimed at making it easier for consumers to get their 5 A Day, as well as saving them time in the kitchen.
The new range of lamb and beef products has been developed in response to customers increasingly demanding healthier, more sustainable and convenient products, the supermarket said. It also comes as more than two thirds of Britain’s flexitarians are actively looking to reduce their meat consumption, according to a recent YouGov poll.
The aim of the new range is to make scratch cooking easier by removing the need to buy and prepare vegetables separately to make the base of popular dishes such as bolognese, lasagne or meatballs. Created by Tesco chefs, the products 'champion vegetables as flavour enhancers to provide sweetness to home-cooked dishes', with an average of 35 per cent of the products being veg.
The range kicks off with five lines: Beef, Carrot & Onion Burgers; Beef, Red Pepper & Carrot Koftas; Lamb, Carrot & Onion Mince; Beef, Carrot & Onion Meatballs; and Beef, Carrot and Onion Mince. Prices start at £2.19 for 250g for the latter mince product and rise to £4.50 for 750g of the same, with pack sizes aimed at solo diners, couples and families.
Tesco director of meat, fish and poultry, Mark Suddaby, said: “We are always looking to provide quick and easy ways for customers to make healthier, more sustainable choices. Our new ‘Meat & Veg’ range provides our customers with one of their 5 a Day, helping adults and children effortlessly add more vegetables to their diets.”
