Potato growers headed north to Bolshan Farm in Angus on July 26 for a Variety Demonstration and Technical Update held by MBMG in conjunction with the British Potato Council.

Both seed and ware growers were invited to see a demonstration of MBMG’s latest varieties, which included Amora, Asterix, Rembrandt, Fontane, Daisy, Markies Control, Cultra, Purple Star, Saphire and Sassy, along with some newly developed varieties.

There were also presentations from Dr Jeff Peters from the BPC’s Sutton Bridge technical department on the latest research on tuber diseases including information on current management strategies and new diagnostic tests, and from Fraser Milne, who looked at compaction and soil erosion from both the growing crop and environmental perspectives.

“It was a really successful day and was an opportunity to demonstrate the strong variety portfolio available to Scottish seed and ware growers from MBMG. We have had some very positive feedback from those that attended,” said MBMG’s technical director, Philip Burgess.
