A Cheshire businessman has been arrested over the death of a leading Polish produce supplier who was found battered to death in her Paris hotel room last week.

Ian Griffin was arrested by Cheshire police in connection with the death of Kinga Legg and is being questioned by officers in the East Cheshire custody suite.

Ms Legg owned international tomato supplier Vegex, which counted Tesco and other leading supermarkets among its customers with sites in Oxshott, Surrey and Opatówek in Legg’s country of birth, Poland.

French police have confirmed she had died from "internal bleeding caused by multiple blows" after her body was found by a cleaner last Tuesday.

Following the discovery of Ms Legg's body, an international manhunt began for businessman Mr Ian Griffin, Ms Legg's boyfriend, who was reported to have left the scene in his Porsche 911.

Mr Griffin’s ex-lover Tracey Baker revealed that Mr Griffin had contacted her and told her he had had a “massive fight” with Ms Legg, who allegedly attacked him with a stun gun on the night she was killed.

Mr Griffin’s car was found a few days later at an address in Warrington, Cheshire and he is also known to have visited Shepperton Marina, where he and Ms Legg kept a motorboat.

Mr Griffin and Ms Legg had checked into the £1,000-a-night Hotel Le Bristol the day before the attack.

Police said Mr Griffin was detained on Monday afternoon in woodland in Macclesfield, Cheshire under Section Nine of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

The section of the act covers any murder or manslaughter committed outside of the UK.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: “At this stage it would appear that the man has been living rough in a tent. Cheshire Police are liaising with the French authorities”.

freshinfo extends its condolences to the family of Kinga Legg.
