Luckhurst wins scholarship

Cornwall based agronomist Ellis Luckhurst, 30, from Truro has recently been awarded a Nuffield Farming Trust scholarship that will take him to China, New Zealand and California as part of an intensive study programme looking into new horticultural opportunities for vegetable farmers.

Having recently returned from Brussels along with 12 other scholars, Luckhurst spent time in the European capital attending meetings with NFU and Defra representatives to the European Parliament discussing the latest European reforms affecting the UK’s agricultural industries.

He joins 19 other individuals from the farming, food chain and rural industries across the UK that have been awarded this national award scheme.

The Nuffield Farming Trust, now in its 60th year, is regarded as a prestigious industry learning opportunity. “It allows individuals the chance of a lifetime; the ability to step away from the daily treadmill, to travel the world, to pursue new ideas and to make a difference to British food and farming,” said John Stones, NFST director.
