Fresh produce imports and logistics provider The Seafast Group is set to double the capacity of its temperature controlled handling operation, based at the Port of Felixstowe.
Due to open in September, the expanded cold-chain logistics plant will continue to focus on the company's business in fresh produce, while expanding its frozen produce capabilities.
The group believes that the year-round facility will create lower costs for customers as cargo will spend less time inside containers. It will also speed up the process of labelling fresh produce.
Seafast Group MD David Halliday said:“Customers had to be convinced to change their established ways of working, and to see the benefits and savings that can be achieved with a port-centric operation, not to mention the environmental advantages of reduced truck movements. But the fact that we’ve been able to commit to a substantial expansion of this facility is proof enough that this concept is working well for our customers.”
