A two-week freshinfo poll on behalf of Lamb’s Lettuce producers from the Loire Valley has earned the product's name a reprieve.
The poll sought to find out whether people believe the salad leaf is worthy of a name change, as French producers were considering their options.
According to the results, it would appear not, since a massive 71 per cent opted for the "if it ain't broke don't fix it option".
The next most popular option was Mâche, which received 18 per cent of the votes, followed by Corn Salad on five per cent and Lamb’s Tongue on four per cent.
Two anonymous subscribers suggested Loire Lettuce, while Lettuce d’agneau, Valle Verte Lettuce and Sheeps Salad also got a mention.
Jeanne Delaunay, account manager at Sopexa, the UK representative for Lamb’s Lettuce, said: “We are overwhelmed with the level of response, and given the positive feedback on the existing name and that it was the most popular option, we will not be changing from Lamb’s Lettuce.”
