Kwik Save enters crisis talks

Talks are to resume later today over the future of beleaguered discount retail chain Kwik Save, as staff agree to go without pay for a sixth week.

Kwik Save bosses have been putting together a refinancing package to save the supermarket chain from going into administration and have until Thursday, after a judge in Manchester granted another week’s adjournment.

After axing 81 of its 226 stores, Kwik Save bosses have now asked staff to go without pay for what is the sixth week.

The judge had asked Kwik Save to canvass staff at the remaining 145 stores to see if they would agree to going without pay so a rescue deal could be put in place.

The majority of staff agreed in an attempt to stave off administration.

Analysts say the retail chain is close to reaching an agreement with Irish entrepreneur Brendon Murtagh, under which the business would be rebranded as Fresh Express.
