KG has paid tribute to md Nick Marston for his contribution to the berry firm's success

At its annual general meeting held at Windsor racecourse earlier this month, soft fruit specialist marketeer KG reported another successful year for the company.

Turnover increased from £73.1 million in 2002 to £93.6m in 2003, an increase of 28 per cent. Md Nicholas Marston said: "We are delighted that increased profitability has enabled us to increase our rebates to growers to £1.1m, an increase of £400,000 over the 2003 grower rebate. This will help our committed growers to continue further investment on farms at a time of increasing costs."

KG's board also told growers at the meeting that its strong growth continues and the company is expecting further expansion in 2004, both from imports and from within the existing grower base.

Colchester-based Plantsman, in the past an independent competitor of KG, took the decision to merge its marketing with KG this spring. In welcoming the growers to their first agm Marston revealed that the inclusion of Plantsman growers into the KG fold, significantly increases the marketing group's glasshouse strawberry offer and has further strengthened its market position.

KG chairman, Angus Davison paid tribute to Marston and the work of his team for a great performance in the last crop year, and predicted further future success for KG and its growers.
