Jensen is following CEO Justin King's lead in leaving the retailer

Sainsbury's group development director has left the retailer after six years.

Luke Jensen joined Sainsbury's in April 2008 from consultants OC&C as strategy director, and helped bring a number of ground-breaking initiatives to the retailer.

Major achievements on his watch have included breaking the £1 billion barrier in groceries online.

It is understood that Sainbury's has not yet named a direct replacement, and Jensen's main responsibilities are being taken up by Jon Rudoe, who last month was promoted to the role of director of online, digital and cross channel and Sainsbury's operating board.

Jensen's departure follows the decision of Justin King to stand down after 10 years as CEO.

He will leave the retailer in July and be succeeded by Mike Coupe.
