Kettle Produce Ltd has assured its customers it is “business as usual” at the Scottish vegetable supplier, despite a major fire that broke out in the early hours of last Friday morning.

A troop of 50 firefighters battled the blaze at the Orkie Farm plant, near Freuchie in Fife, belonging to one of Scotland’s largest supermarket suppliers.

The company reassured customers that supply will continue uninterrupted despite the fire, which resulted in the destruction of a chill area and also a carrot-washing area.

The firm’s permanent staff have now been moved to the company’s Balmalcolm site, where they will continue focusing on fulfilling customer orders.

Susie McIntyre, managing director of Kettle Produce Ltd, said: “While operations at the Orkie Farm plant have been temporarily put on hold, it is very much business as usual and we have been contacting our customers to reassure them that the fire will not have an impact on their orders, which will be fulfilled as normal.

“The response from our staff has been excellent and we have received some wonderful messages of support from our customers and friends of the business.”

A spokesman told FPJ that activities at the Orkie Farm plant are likely to recommence in around four weeks’ time and Fife Constabulary said there was “nothing suspicious” about the incident.
