Jus has been voted the tastiest apple juice in the West Midlands in a contest run by Heart of England Fine Foods, Heff.

The company’s Cox’s Orange Pippin juice won the competition which was organised as part of Farmhouse Breakfast Week by Heff and Aga. Judges included Eric Reeve of the Essex Pig Company, Tom Graham who plays Tom Archer in BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, and Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, the self-styled Black Farmer.

Shoppers and on-lookers were invited to taste the juice at the contest held at the Aga Shop in Birmingham and concurred with judges that the drink was “sweet” and “extremely moreish”.

Jus is owned by Janet Mackay who bottles the freshly pressed, single-variety apple juice using her own and others’ locally grown apples at her Aylton, Ledbury smallholding.

“It is very satisfying to have won,” said Mackay. “After quite a few years in the business and considering the standard of our competitors, it is nice to know we’re still doing it right and coming out as market leaders.”

Clive’s Fruit Farm of Upton-Upon-Severn came second and Broomfields of Holt Heath, Worcester was highly commended.
