John Bell Carmichael, formerly of Glasgow wholesaler J Carmichael & Co Ltd, sadly passed away peacefully on April 13, after a period of illness.

Widely recognised as one of the pioneers of the exotic trade in the UK, John retired five years ago, having previously spent a few years before that working part-time. His son Stuart Carmichael, who now heads up the business, said that he had retained an interest in the business which has remained as strong as ever, and was particularly proud that Carmichael’s was again shortlisted for the Re:fresh Wholesaler of the Year award.

John died at home with his wife Irene and family. He also leaves three sons John, Stuart and Euan, and was grandpa to Ross and Eilidh. A service of thanksgiving will be held at Netherlee Parish Church, Ormonde Drive, Glasgow, tomorrow (Wednesday April 20) at 2.15pm. Friends are invited to Linn Crematorium, at 3.30pm.

Family flowers only, but donations, if desired, should be given to Pancreatic Cancer Research, Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
