Protective packaging specialist Jiffy is aiming for the fruit sector with the launch of a new product.

Jiffy’s Fruit Pads are aimed at ensuring fruit makes it through the supply chain to retailer shelves bruise-free.

The product is made from macerated recycled paper fibres, sandwiched between layers of paper to form a thick cushioning pad. The paper pads provide protection for both interleaving and wrapping, and gently cushion individual items of fruit as well as loose bunches.

A spokesman said: “The thick cushioning subsequently absorbs all the bumps and bangs the fruit is liable to receive in transit, keeping it in position and in perfect condition on its journey to the customer. Fruit pads are fully recyclable and easy to dispose of.

“The pads can be used as a top or bottom-cushioning pad for boxed fruit and as a shock absorbing base pad for rigid containers. The extra thick cushioning is not affected by controlled atmosphere environments.”

The Jiffy Fruit Pads come in a range of options, from standard to heavyweight and can be made in special sizes to meet specific requirements.
