Jazzy feel for Fruity Friday

Jazz apples are throwing their weight behind the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) UK’s awareness day, Fruity Friday, for the second year running.

The aim of this day, to be held on May 25, is to encourage the public to maintain a balanced diet by including a 5 A DAY intake of fruit and vegetables.

The WCRF has run the Fruity Friday campaign for three years now, raising money for WCRF’s cancer research and education programme.

Jazz apples’ support this year will come in the form of sponsorship of an interactive scratch poster. Some 70,000 of the unique, UK-shaped posters will be produced for the Fruity Friday campaign, and are being distributed to schools, businesses. Community and medical centres up and down the country.

The poster features 40 squares, one of which has a hidden picture of Pip the Strawberry. Entrants write their name under a square on the poster and donate £1. On May 25, the square surfaces will be scratched off and the person whose name appears under Pip wins half the money, while the remainder goes to charity.

Commercial manager for Worldwide Fruit, Gary Harrison, said: “We are excited to be involved in the WCRF Fruity Friday campaign again this year. Jazz apples understands the importance of healthy eating and we are pleased that the campaign is growing in momentum.”

Jazz apples will be given away at Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus underground tube stations on May 4. To help kick off WCRF’s awareness week, on May 21 Jazz apples will also be in Cavendish Square and on Fruity Friday they can be found in Canary Wharf.

WCRF managing director Lucie Gallice said: “We are delighted that Jazz apples has again given its backing to our Fruity Friday campaign.”

Jazz is also sponsoring the WCRF’s Beat the Banana fun runs, to be held across the country. The events, in Liverpool, London, Bristol, Manchester and Hull, will involve participants trying to beat a runner dressed as a banana. Jazz apples will be given out in goodie bags at the races.
