Growers in northern Israel have collectively lost an estimated $1m (520,000) a day during the month of hostilities with Hezbollah.
Producers with deciduous fruit plantations and orchards in regions close to the Israel-Lebanese border are incurring huge financial penalties as a result of the continuous fighting.
Israel’s ministries of agriculture and of finance have agreed a compensation plan for covering direct and indirect damages to the agricultural sector in the northern region. But farmers still fear fruit shortages in autumn and winter.
Any effect on export programmes is still expected to be minimal, although concerns will begin to rise if the fighting continues for much longer.
