Tesco could be seeing its lead over its supermarket rivals slip, according to the latest figures from TNS Worldpanel.

According to the market researchers, Tesco’s growth, which until recently had been a steady 10 per cent, declined to 7.2 per cent in the 12 weeks to March 26.

However, its rivals, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Waitrose, Iceland and Marks & Spencer all showed improved performances.

While Tesco continues to maintain a healthy lead on market share, at 30.6 per cent, analysts predict that if the retailer continues to slip on growth, the likes of Sainsbury’s and Morrisons could soon begin to chip away at that lead.
