Plastic punnets with a click-shut lid were introduced by packaging manufacturer ILIP at Asia Fruit Logistica.
The product was developed to increase efficiency on the factory floor.
The transparent PET or PLA plastic boxes can be closed in one simple action with one hand, as opposed to the original format, which requires two hands.
A marketing campaign for the product is being put together.
The packaging is designed primarily for grapes, but could also be used for tomatoes and kiwifruit.
ILIP export director Mauro Stipa told FPJ the click-shut punnets will be available in the UK. “We have been testing this product in the market and the first results are looking good,” he said.
