Seventeen successful candidates have been awarded scholarships for the IGD's prestigious Postgraduate Certificate in Food and Grocery Industry Management, each worth £3,500.
The scholarships have been introduced to offer food and grocery professionals, primarily from smaller and medium sized businesses, the opportunity to enhance their industry skills and knowledge. The qualification will take a year to complete and includes modules such as marketing, business costing, applied consumer research and sustainable supply chains.
The centenary scholarships have been awarded to professionals from Heart of England Fine Foods, The Organic Salad Company and British and Brazilian Product Ltd among others.
The scholarships celebrate IGD’s 100-year history of training and developing people within the food and grocery industry. When it began, IGD provided skills training on product handling and window displays. As the industry evolved, IGD broadened its reach to focus on the development of individuals across the whole supply chain. Today, this focus continues and IGD now offers many training and development opportunities including the Postgraduate Certificate, validated by the University of Edinburgh.
Joanne Denney-Finch, chief executive IGD, said: “In our centenary year IGD is pleased to be able to offer 17 professionals, many from smaller and medium-sized food and grocery companies, the chance to participate in our Postgraduate Certificate in Food and Grocery Industry Management.
“Our heritage is in training and development and this qualification will allow students to broaden their industry skills and knowledge. We look forward to following their progress as they apply their learnings back in the workplace where many smaller businesses from across the whole food and grocery chain will benefit."
